Pennington shareholder distinguished as a specialist and expert in his practice area

TALLAHASSEE — Pennington Law Firm shareholder, Michael J. Thomas, has recently achieved board certification as a civil trial attorney by The Florida Bar. Board Certification identifies lawyers who possess special knowledge, skills and proficiency, as well as a reputation for professionalism and ethics that distinguishes them from other attorneys who practice in the civil litigation area.
Certification is the highest level of recognition by The Florida Bar of the competency and experience of attorneys in the areas of law approved for certification by the Supreme Court of Florida. An attorney with this distinction is well equipped to expertly represent a client at all stages of a civil dispute.
To become Board Certified a lawyer must have at least five years experience practicing law, and substantial involvement in the area of civil trial law. The lawyer is also required to have conducted at least 15 contested civil cases in courts of general jurisdiction, including cases before a jury and as lead counsel. Each certified lawyer must pass a peer review, have completed 50 hours of continuing legal education, and have passed a rigorous written examination.
Mr. Thomas' practice focuses on insurance defense litigation, including medical malpractice, product liability, premises liability and general civil litigation. He is admitted to practice in all Florida and Georgia state courts, the U.S. District Court Northern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Thomas received his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Florida State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He is a member of DRI, FDLA and has been awarded an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
